Our interdisciplinary programs are specifically designed to cultivate knowledge and skills as well as to spark interest and enthusiasm in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). WLC is a dynamic, intellectual community where learning is rigorous, student-centered, collaborative, experiential, and applied. These active academic experiences bring learning to life, forever changing a child’s perception of education and of self. With the guidance of dedicated teachers, WLC’s students become drivers of their own learning and empowered seekers of knowledge.
Informed, Involved, Integral – WLC, education is a shared enterprise of home and school. Families play an active and supportive role in the life of the school and feel welcomed, valued, and connected. The involvement of parents—who organize activities, volunteer at events, and support our students in their academic endeavors—enhances our school life.
There is a greater sense of shared mission and community at Weathersby Learning Center than at larger centers, which results in greater classroom participation for every student. Intentionally small, our 10:1 student/ratio allows teachers to have a better understanding of each students’ instructional needs, creating environments where all students are encouraged to participate and take appropriate risks.
We offer a large variety of activities to help stimulate the minds of the children in our care, including art, science, math, sensory, construction, fine motor, language, dramatic play, outdoor activities, and field trips. All our programs are organized for maximum fun and learning to ensure that your child enjoys each moment he/she spends in our care. Our curriculum is based upon the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines Early Childhood Standards.
Our teachers are enthusiastic and highly trained in early childhood development. Each of our programs has undergone careful planning and is structured to encourage curiosity for learning, social interaction, and creativity. As a cooperative, we also welcome parent involvement. Throughout the year, parents will have the opportunity to be the parent’s helper within the classroom.
The mission of the Weathersby Learning Center (WLC) is to facilitate an inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity as well as promotes a professional commitment to impacting our community and supporting student success, through the provision of a nationally accredited early childhood educational program for the children of Weathersby Learning Center students, and staff.
At WLC a primary goal is for children to feel safe and secure. Additionally, we believe that a learning environment which fosters respect for cultural diversity and utilizes an eclectic approach to education allows for optimal growth and development of young children. Young children’s developmental tasks are to build trust, learn social skills, begin mastery of academic skills and develop positive self-esteem. In order to best support these tasks, our program strives to provide developmentally appropriate activities, well-trained and consistent staff, a safe and healthy learning environment, and continuity of care. Also, throughout the whole learning process we believe parents are their child’s first teacher; thus, we work to support parents in their efforts to guide their child’s development as well.
At WLC, your precious baby will be nurtured and loved while encouraged to try a variety of activities that inspire him/her to develop and grow.
Toddler time is discovery time at WLC. Your little one will learn to socialize, make friends, have fun and even develop some independence. Your child will learn many self-help skills, as well as counting, sorting and reading picture books to name a few.
Why, why, why? Your preschooler has questions, and WLC’s preschool teachers have many of the answers! Through educational play, our early education professionals will embrace your child’s natural curiosity to help him/her be ready for kindergarten!
After the school day ends, WLC offers a fun, safe, club-like atmosphere for your school-ager. Grab a snack, socialize with friends, take part in a planned activity, or get help with homework in our school-age program.
